Faces of Disc Golf - Danny Corbett OTB
Who are you?
My name is Danny Corbett and I’m the founder of OTB (Only The Best) Discs. We’re a global retailer with humble beginnings! I started OTB here in California in 2014 out of my house as a part-time passion project. With a lot of hard work and plenty of luck, we’re now two locations in the U.S. (shoutout OTBeast.com) and one location in Sweden at the world famous Ale Disc Golf Center (shoutout OTBdiscs.eu)
What’s disc golf to you?
Hard to even begin to answer this question! I was lucky enough to get started around 7 years old. It was my biggest passion from a young age - that passion continues to grow everyday - love this sport! It being my livelihood now somehow means I golf less than I used to =P but I still enjoy at least 1 round on most weeks. Disc golf to me is multifaceted - it is my job, it is one of my favorite activities, and it is my family. I love this sport and community!
Forehand or Backhand?
Both, but my strength is definitely in my Forehand. I lean on it for wooded courses and will choose it on wide open shots in a lot of scenarios. I think I played my first 7 years throwing mostly Forehand. My elbow now prefers Backhands =P. I’ve got a ‘Garrett Gurthie’-like arm swing, but nowhere near his elite distance!
Favorite disc golf course?
My now-biased answer is Ale Disc Golf Center ;) - Slight edge to the White course, but the Yellow is also a TON of fun! Here in California, I have a ton of love for Delaveaga, Gleneagles, and Brooktrails.
Favorite item in your bag?
My beer - just kidding ;). My 11x Firebirds stand out, but I have love for a handful of molds in there. The Eclipse Reactor is the best midrange ever made, in my opinion - love those! I also use my suction cup ball retriever more often than I’d like to admit.
Shoutouts?
Shoutout to FPC for the honor of being asked to do this and for being the homies that were so welcoming when I first came to Finland a couple of years ago. Shoutout to the local communities and individuals that make disc golf what it is. Shoutout to the whole OTB family - so many people from day 1. Shoutout my pops for getting me into the sport, my mom for being awesome, and my wife for being the best partner I could ever dream of.
