Faces of disc golf - Tina Oakley (Whale Sacs)

Who are you?
I am Tina Oakley. I am a jack of all trades, who loves learning new things,
loves working with my hands, loves being outside in nature and
can’t help but turn my most passionate hobbies into businesses
a serial entrepreneur!

What’s disc golf to you?
Disc golf has given me my most meaningful and valuable things in my life,
my friends, my husband, my business (Whale Sacs) and
also for years gave me the ability to live out a dream of traveling the country and world.
Disc golf is a place of community where if you meet a complete stranger,
but they play disc golf, you feel like you know them, you feel connected on this deeper level.
Disc golf has been a massive part of my life for 13 years in so many different ways
and I hope it continues through my whole life.

Forehand or Backhand?
Why not both?!
I started as a forehand dominant player, it just made more sense to me and you could see your target.
After a few years I learned backhand and loved the additional power it gave.
Over time I started to lose my forehand but now I use it often for touchy upshots
which is one of the stronger parts of my game now.
I ALSO have a good “get out of trouble” lefty sidearm that is insanely helpful.
I am primarily backhand these days but every once in awhile I’ll get out and practice my sidearm,
it’s not a skill I intend to lose!

Favorite disc golf course?
My first thought is Brewster Ridge at Smugglers Notch Vermont.
It’s one when I travel up there, I HAVE to play it.
It’s technical- wooded and incredibly beautiful.
One of the best hike/courses out there.
I also have some amazing memories with friends and Eric (my husband) on that course.

Favorite item in your bag?
A Santa themed Zach Melton Whale Sac that I’ve had for years!
Lost a few times but it always comes back…
I guess I could always make another if it ever truly was lost. 😀

Shoutouts?
Shoutout to my awesome team at Whale Sacs.
Business for the last 10 years has been ever changing and not without struggle.
There were many times I wanted to give up but the team I have now is the reason we are still around,
and I am enjoying working more than I have in years. I am so thankful!
